Wedding at The Drapers Arms & Islington Town Hall

A London pub wedding at The Drapers Arms on the blog today, with a ceremony at one of my regular haunts: the iconic Islington Town Hall. The start of the year and an early start to the 2017 wedding season, Joumanna and Martin’s wedding was in the first week of January. Winter weddings can always be a gamble weather-wise, but they were very lucky: bright blue skies and some winter sunshine. Joumanna got ready at the Rosewood Hotel in High Holborn, alongside her parents (who’d made the journey over from Lebanon for the big day), her best friend and the creator of her stunning silk wedding dress, Sarah Bond. Sarah is a dressmaker known for her elegant, beautifully cut pieces, and the one-off dress she created for Joumanna was no exception:  it was truly incredible.

A beautiful vintage white wedding car took Joumanna and her father over to the town hall, where Martin and the guests were waiting. Joumanna walked in to the council chamber arm and arm with her proud father, and the ceremony got underway.  Once the certificate was signed, the guests headed outside and we took advantage of a few quiet minutes to take some relaxed portraits in the marble corridors. Outside, they headed into a flurry of confetti and congratulations.

Next stop was The Drapers Arms, a lovely neighbourhood pub on Barnsbury Street in Islington. The guests made their way there on foot, whilst Joumanna and Martin travelled over in their wedding car. After a drinks reception downstairs, the party headed up to the private dining room, which looked very pretty: a chequerboard painted wooden floor, pale blue walls and elegant chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. It was at this point that my coverage ended, and I left the wedding party to enjoy the evening.
